A base for a North Wales riding epic

Based near Trawsfyndd and just a few minutes up the road from Coed y Brenin, Cadair View Lodge is holiday village built up with Norwegian style log cabins that are set in some stunning scenery.

As you stand on the balcony of the cabin and take in the panorama there are mountains in every direction, just the inspiration you need if you are away for a week of riding.

The cabin itself is well equipped and comfortable with all you would need for a long weekend riding the local trails, and with all the trails in the surrounding area within an hours drive, it makes an ideal base to for a north Wales riding adventure. Coed y Brenin is on the doorstep with Betws y Coed and Penmachno also close by. Slightly further out you have Llandegla or in the opposite direction Machynlleth. If you want to ride out in the wild, Cader Idris is around 11 miles away. In fact there is so much riding potential in this area of Wales that you could spend a whole week exploring.

When you get back from your ride the cabin offers all you need, a shower, a fully equipped kitchen and some nice comfy sofas. With a FreeSat flat screen HD TV and a DVD player, you can kick back stick on your favourite riding film.

The cabin we stayed in was suitable for a family of four or three adults, with one double bed and a bunk bed. On arrival you are greeted with a box full of essentials such as bread, milk, tea and biscuits so you don't have to worry about where that post ride tea and toast is coming from!

The only real downside if the phone reception. If you aren’t on Vodafone or Orange you will have to hunt for pockets of reception.

As we are lazy and couldn’t be bothered to cook, we hit the local pub, Rhiw Goch, for food. As usual, in a Welsh food establishment that is anywhere near mountain bikers, the portions are king sized and enough to leave you stuffed. Luckily the pub was only a five minute walk from the cabin so we didn’t have to walk very far on full stomachs.

All in all, if you want a self catering base for a mountain biking holiday with all the creature comforts, then this place should be high on your list of places to check out!

Some of the cabins had bike lockers. Ours didn't as we had the van.
