I don't know the are so this is just from looking at the routes. The Black Mountains Classic looks hard, those two climbs look long and vertical! This looks like an easier alternative.. http://www.justgoride.co.uk/Content/Routes/Viewer.aspx?id=872

The Crickhowell route looks alright, still mention of a bike a hike in the description though.

I suppose the days are pretty long now, but I'd still go for the shortest of the three routes if you are new to the area.

First time in mynydd-du-forest

First post and it's one to ask for advice, heading to Crickhowell for the weekend and very keen to get into the mynydd-du-forest. We've got the afternoon tomorrow and was hoping to get a ride in before it gets dark. Has anyone ridden the route routes that have .gpx files on this site? They are the black mountains classic and Crickhowell, wondering how long they take a reasonably fit person and what kind of terrain to expect. Other than these two routes can anyone suggest other alternatives in the area?

Cheers

Trevor
